GIFT Nifty Opening Update

GIFT Nifty opened today at 24,132.00. It is down -124.50 points (-0.51%) from yesterday’s close of 24,283.00— so the trend is negative.

Indian benchmark indices, the Sensex and Nifty 50, concluded the trading session on Monday, July 20, in negative territory, reflecting subdued global sentiment as tensions between the United States and Iran intensified. The Sensex experienced a decline of 443 points, representing a decrease of 0.57%, concluding at 77,708.52. Meanwhile, the Nifty 50 recorded a loss of 96 points, equivalent to a 0.39% drop, finishing the session at 24,238.50. The broader markets exhibited superior performance compared to the headline indices. The Nifty Midcap 100 advanced by 0.60%, whereas the Nifty Smallcap 100 recorded a gain of 0.16%.

However, the market is likely to open lower as trends in the Gift Nifty index signalled a negative start on Tuesday, 21 July. Gift Nifty was positioned around the 24,154 level, reflecting a decline of more than 105 points from the prior closing of Nifty futures. “Indian equity markets are expected to open on a subdued note as investors remain cautious amid escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, elevated crude oil prices, persistent foreign portfolio investor (FPI) selling, and continued weakness in the Indian rupee. The combination of external headwinds has reinforced a risk-off mood, limiting investors’ appetite for equities,” said Ponmudi R.

As the market indicates a negative opening, certain stocks are expected to attract attention on Tuesday due to their individual positive or negative catalysts.
